The quote is from the story "The Stalled Ox" past H. H. Munro.
Eshley'southward neighbour has a problem that an ox is in her morn-room. And Eshley was supposed to drive information technology out of her garden. But Eshley deciedes to paint the ox.
I googled the proverb and found out "A bowl of vegetables with someone you love is better than steak with someone y'all detest". Does information technology fit to context?

Chong Lee, I don't call up the state of affairs really has a lot to do with the saying.
The proverb sounds funny to us. The real meaning is "information technology is nicer to enjoy a poor dinner with friends than a fancy dinner with people you don't like." The Bible uses antiquated language that sounds odd to the modern ear. "A dinner of herbs" sounds a little odd considering today we unremarkably only apply herbs to refer to plants that accept a strong season, which nosotros use to season nutrient. Simply the proverb merely ways "a dinner of vegetables," as you suggested. And what is a stalled ox? I think this means an ox or a cow that has been kept in a stall. A animal raised this fashion would have meat that is more than tender, more than marbled with fat, and more than flavorful than an animal that roams the pasture.
But I think Eshley was but thinking "Here I am in a room with an ox, which is very odd! And instead of sending it out, I prefer to keep information technology hither. And I'm feeding information technology 'herbs.'" This reminds him of the proverb "Meliorate a dinner of herbs than putting the ox dorsum in the stall." It really doesn't hateful the same thing, merely it sounds like information technology does.
